 Applied Industrial Technologies History

Always having the right part in stock, and getting it to the customer when they need it, has been the Applied® Promise since the very beginning.

In 1923, company founder Joseph M. Bruening delivered the first bearing to a customer who had not yet hung up the phone from placing the order. Bruening knew then that a precedent must be set in industrial distribution.

And, while this type of service seems unlikely in today’s marketplace, Applied Industrial Technologies continues that commitment to quickly satisfying each customer order. Applied Industrial Technologies was built to serve the industrial community and rests on the foundation that customers’ needs come first.

Throughout the years, this principle has inspired us to invest in growth opportunities that contributed to our expansion and evolution.

As the industrial market grew, so did Applied. Several strategic acquisitions, including businesses in Canada, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand, positioned Applied as a leading industrial distributor whose focus is providing on-time delivery through locally stocked product. In addition, we introduced new product lines, innovative technologies and value-added services to offer one-stop solutions to our customers’ MRO needs.

Applied’s growth and change are a reflection of customer needs and our eagerness to adapt to those requests.
