A Deep Dive into Schaeffler's FAG Mounted Bearing Housings

Mounted rolling-element bearings are used to support and guide rotating or oscillating shafts with precision and minimal friction. The bearings are assembled within housings that provide a stable operating environment which mitigates misalignment and distributes loads effectively across the bearing surfaces. The primary function of mounted bearings is to ensure smooth rotational motion while handling axial and radial loads, thereby enhancing the efficiency and longevity of a variety of machines.

The most common types of bearing housings are plummer (or pillow) block housings, flange-mount housings, and take-up housings:

• Pillow block and plummer block housings are typically used for shaft support applications where the shaft must be parallel to the mounting surface whereby plummer blocks are used to support heavy industrial loads and pillow blocks are utilized for lighter-load applications. Both pillow- and plummer block housings are available in split versions (which simplify assembly and maintenance) and unsplit versions.

• Flange-mount housings, designed for applications requiring perpendicular mounting to the surface, provide robust support in both axial and radial directions, which is highly beneficial in high-load conditions.

• Take-up housings, meanwhile, are predominantly employed in conveyor systems and similar applications requiring frequent tension adjustment.

FAG SAFD200 Series Housings

Performance, durability and versatility – encased in high-strength ductile iron. The latest addition to Schaeffler’s lineup of industry-leading split pillow block bearing housings, the all-new FAG SAFD200 series has been specifically engineered to accommodate cylindrical bore spherical roller bearings with a stepped (shouldered) or sleeved shaft. Perfect for higher load-carrying applications affected by high impact shocks and vibrations as well as extremely cold operating environments, Schaeffler’s FAG SAFD200 series housings are cast in high-quality ductile iron. Designed with two different shaft size openings and the associated seals, all FAG SAFD200 series housings feature a universal design and come complete with radial labyrinth (LER) seals, stabilizing rings and end covers. Upgradeable to Schaeffler’s popular FAG SuperTAC II™ taconite seals for highly contaminated operating environments.

Note: Bearing, lock nut and lock washer must be ordered separately.
