Constant Level Oilers Understanding the Lubrication Principle and Product Family
The effective, yet simple, devices explained
How do they work?
Constant level lubrication is a concept that involves maintaining a consistent oil level in a lubricating sump. If there is any oil loss, a reservoir of oil will provide additional volume to replenish the sump until the original oil level is restored. This principle has been used for many years by end users and original equipment manufacturers worldwide. As a result, we often receive inquiries about how these oilers work.
The concept may seem counterintuitive, as it involves an inverted bottle of fluid continuously supplying oil without emptying out completely. However, this is not magic but rather a result of the basic rules of fluid dynamics at play, specifically oil displacement. The fluid in the bottle will feed out until it reaches the desired oil level, determined by the level adjustment mechanism. If the oil drops below the control point, air enters the reservoir, displacing fluid until the control point is re-established.
Why the different types of Constant Level Oilers?
Different types of constant level oilers exist for various reasons. When walking through a plant, you may notice a variety of oilers chosen based on factors such as equipment design considerations, contamination protection, adherence to industry standards, or simply tradition. Regardless of the type chosen, all constant level oilers fulfill their purpose of maintaining a constant oil level.
Over the years, Trico has been at the forefront of constant level oiler innovation and refinement, offering a range of products:

The Original Opto-Matic
This is the most common oiler in the industry and the one that started it all.

The Plastic Opto-Matic
Designed with different materials to suit specific industries.

The Closed System Oiler
Specifically engineered for contamination protection, this oiler is closed off from the outside atmosphere.

The Watchdog Oiler
This non-adjustable oiler is installed directly on the centerline of the oil to be maintained.

Sensei OLEX
Trico's latest innovation in constant level lubrication, featuring cloud-based oiler monitoring.
